Sun Nov 17 08:37:06 UTC 2024: ## Delhi AAP Minister Kailash Gehlot Resigns, Citing Disagreements and Controversies

**New Delhi:** Kailash Gehlot, a prominent member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and a Delhi minister, has resigned from both his ministerial post and the party’s primary membership. Gehlot submitted separate resignation letters to AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi.

In his letter to Kejriwal, Gehlot cited several recent controversies, including references to the alleged “Sheesh Mahal” incident (referring to Kejriwal’s former residence), as reasons for his departure. He expressed concern that the party was prioritizing internal agendas and battles with the central government over the needs of Delhi’s citizens, hindering the city’s progress. He stated that he felt he had no choice but to leave the party.

Gehlot, who held portfolios including Transport, Administrative Reforms, Information Technology, Home, and Women & Child Development, also resigned from the Delhi cabinet. He shared his resignation letters on X (formerly Twitter).

The resignation has drawn immediate reactions from opposing parties. Delhi Congress chief Devendra Yadav praised Gehlot’s action, viewing it as a courageous act that reflects poorly on Kejriwal. The BJP’s Delhi president, Virendra Sachdeva, similarly lauded Gehlot’s decision, describing it as a courageous stand against Kejriwal and his alleged “lootera” (looter) gang.

The AAP is yet to officially respond to Gehlot’s resignation and the accusations he leveled. The development marks a significant blow to the AAP, particularly given Gehlot’s long-standing association with the party.
