**Bengaluru, November 15, 2024** – West Sydney University is exploring the establishment of a new agricultural university in Bengaluru, India. A delegation from the university, led by Consulate General McGeachy, met with Karnataka’s Minister of Higher Education, M.C. Sudhakar, on Friday to discuss the proposal.

Chancellor George Williams confirmed the university’s interest, stating that Bengaluru is their preferred location for a new campus focused on advanced agricultural techniques, including water management technology and food processing. The university also seeks collaboration with existing Karnataka universities. Their request includes a 30,000 square foot facility.

Minister Sudhakar welcomed the proposal but suggested collaboration with existing agricultural universities in the state. He emphasized the benefits of incorporating innovative agricultural subjects using existing infrastructure. He also highlighted the potential academic benefits of lecturer and student exchange programs.

Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh advised the delegation to consider locations outside Bengaluru and to implement a 50% reservation for Karnataka students in the new university. The proposal is currently under consideration.
