CHENNAI, INDIA – Actress Nayanthara has publicly accused actor Dhanush of preventing the use of footage and music from their hit film “Naanum Rowdydhaan” in her upcoming Netflix documentary, “Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale.” In an open letter, Nayanthara expressed her disappointment and frustration, claiming Dhanush’s refusal stemmed from personal animosity.
The documentary, slated for release on November 18th, chronicles Nayanthara’s life and career, including her relationship and marriage to director Vignesh Shivan. “Naanum Rowdydhaan,” their first film together, holds significant sentimental value and is a key part of their love story.
Nayanthara stated that she and her team had been negotiating with Dhanush for nearly two years to secure permission to use the material. She alleges that Dhanush’s last-minute legal notice, demanding a substantial sum (approximately ₹10 crore) for the use of only three seconds of footage, demonstrates a vengeful motive rather than a legitimate copyright concern.
The actress highlighted the irony of Dhanush’s actions, considering the film’s enduring popularity and its importance in her personal narrative. She criticized his behaviour as unprofessional and hurtful, not only to her but to the entire documentary team. She appealed to him to reconsider his position, suggesting that his actions reflect poorly on him and contradict the positive image he projects to his fans. Nayanthara concluded her letter by stating that she and her team will respond legally to the notice, but ultimately leaves the matter to divine judgment.
