Fri Nov 15 15:27:39 UTC 2024: ## India’s Textile and Garment Exports Soar Amidst Global Supply Chain Shift
**Coimbatore, India – November 15, 2024** – India’s textile and garment export sectors are experiencing a significant boom, fueled by a realignment of the global supply chain triggered by the crisis in Bangladesh. October saw a remarkable 35% year-on-year growth in apparel exports and an 11.56% increase in textile exports, according to government data released Thursday.
Industry leaders attribute this surge to several factors. The increased market share in the US, supportive government policies, and India’s growing appeal as a reliable sourcing destination are all cited as key contributors. Rakesh Mehra, chairman of the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI), highlighted these positive influences in a press release.
Sudhir Sekhri, chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), emphasized the resilience of the Indian ready-made garment (RMG) industry, noting record growth despite global challenges like ongoing wars and disruptions. He attributed this success to a strong focus on quality and sustainability, adding that India is performing well in several Free Trade Agreement (FTA) markets, including South Korea, Japan, Australia, and Mauritius. The upcoming Bharat Tex 2025, billed as India’s largest textiles fair, aims to further capitalize on this momentum by showcasing India’s capabilities to global buyers.
Mithileshwar Thakur, Secretary General of AEPC, pointed to the global realignment of supply chains, driven by the Bangladesh crisis and the search for alternatives to China. He stressed the need for continued government support, including investment, skill development, and financial aid, to sustain this growth in the labor-intensive MSME-driven sector. This support, he argued, is crucial as ongoing global conflicts continue to disrupt traditional trade routes and increase costs.
