Sat Nov 16 03:54:46 UTC 2024: ## India Shatters Records in South Africa T20I with Samson and Varma Centuries

**Johannesburg, South Africa:** India recorded a historic victory in the fourth and final T20I against South Africa at the Wanderers Stadium, smashing numerous records en route to a dominant win. The cornerstone of this victory was the breathtaking performances of Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma, who both slammed centuries in a stunning display of batting prowess.

Samson scored 109 runs, marking his third T20I century in just five innings, and his third in a single year – a world first. This also makes him only the second player ever to score two centuries in a single T20I series.

Varma, meanwhile, blasted 120 runs – his second consecutive century – establishing a new high score for an Indian batter in the SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia). His knock surpassed Suryakumar Yadav’s previous best of 117. Varma’s innings included ten sixes, tying the Indian record for most sixes in a T20I innings, previously held by Rohit Sharma and Samson himself. He also became only the second Indian to score back-to-back T20I centuries, following Samson.

The duo’s partnership of 210 runs off just 86 balls for the second wicket is a new record for India in T20Is, surpassing the previous best of 193. India’s overall score of 283/1 (20 overs) is also their highest ever in a T20I away from home. The team also set a new Indian record for most sixes in a T20I innings with a staggering 23.

Varma’s performance also saw him set a new record for the most sixes (20) by an Indian in a bilateral T20I series, surpassing Virat Kohli’s previous mark. Samson also surpassed Kohli’s record, finishing second in the series with 19 sixes.

This match marks a historic day for Indian cricket, with the unprecedented feat of two centurions in a single T20I for a full member nation. The partnership between Samson and Varma, and the overall team performance, will be remembered as a landmark achievement in the history of Indian T20 cricket.
