In a statement released before his departure, Mr. Modi expressed his anticipation for “meaningful discussions” at the summit, building upon India’s successful G20 presidency last year, which he highlighted for its focus on the Global South and the inclusion of the African Union as a permanent member. He will join other world leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Joe Biden, at the November 18-19 summit.
The Prime Minister’s visit to Nigeria, from November 16-17, marks his first to the country and aims to strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Nigeria. He will then travel to Brazil for the G20 summit before concluding his trip in Guyana (November 19-21), making history as the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the country in over 50 years.
