DEHRADUN, INDIA—The father of the sole survivor of a horrific car accident in Dehradun is appealing for compassion and an end to the rampant spread of rumors surrounding the tragedy. Six young people died in the accident involving a Toyota Innova.
Vipin Agarwal, whose son Siddhesh is critically injured and on a ventilator, spoke to India Today TV, urging the public to disregard unverified claims circulating online and in the media. He emphasized the immense grief experienced by the families of the victims and pleaded for empathy during this difficult time.
Multiple unsubstantiated rumors have emerged in the wake of the accident, including allegations of alcohol consumption and a street race with a BMW. A video purportedly showing the victims partying prior to the incident has circulated on social media, but police have not confirmed its authenticity or connection to the accident. Similarly, claims of a street race have been denied by police after reviewing CCTV footage. The footage indicated the Innova only reached high speeds shortly before the crash. Another rumor suggesting victims leaned out of the vehicle’s windows or sunroof has also been unverified.
While investigations are ongoing, no medical reports or autopsies have yet confirmed alcohol consumption by the victims. Agarwal stressed that the truth will emerge through the ongoing investigation and asked the public to refrain from speculating and spreading misinformation.
