**Thiruvananthapuram:** Sandeep Warrier, a prominent BJP leader, has joined the Indian National Congress party after weeks of negotiations. The announcement was made at a KPCC press conference following a formal welcome ceremony at the UDF election committee office. KPCC President K. Sudhakaran and Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan welcomed Warrier into the party.
Warrier’s decision follows a period of strained relations with the BJP leadership. While he was initially removed from several party positions, he was later reinstated by K. Surendran during the Lok Sabha elections. However, Warrier reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with his treatment within the BJP, leading to his eventual departure.
Speaking after joining the Congress, Warrier described his time in the BJP as “suffocating” and expressed hope for a new beginning. He symbolically received his party membership at a shop named ‘Sneha’ (Love).
The Congress leadership has welcomed Warrier, signaling a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.
