**New Delhi:** Varun Chakravarthy has etched his name in Indian cricket history, becoming the first Indian bowler to claim 10 wickets in a bilateral T20 International series. The feat was achieved during the ongoing three-match series against South Africa, with one match still remaining. Chakravarthy’s impressive performance includes a five-wicket haul.
This achievement surpasses the previous record held by Ravichandran Ashwin, who took 9 wickets in a three-match series against Sri Lanka in 2016. Ashwin was the first Indian bowler to reach this milestone in a bilateral T20I series. Ravindra Bishnoi later equalled Ashwin’s record with 9 wickets against Australia in a five-match series in 2023.
Other notable Indian bowlers who have performed well in T20I series include Deepak Chahar (8 wickets against Bangladesh) and Axar Patel (8 wickets against Australia). While several other Indian bowlers have achieved 8 wickets in a series, none had previously reached the 10-wicket mark in a bilateral T20I series. Chakravarthy’s exceptional performance solidifies his position as a key player in India’s T20I bowling attack.
