**Mangaluru, November 14, 2024:** The Udupi district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Congress government of potential involvement in an excise scam following the seizure of Goa liquor worth ₹15 lakh from the residence of a Congress leader in Karkala taluk.
District BJP president Kishore Kumar Kundapura, in a statement, questioned whether the Congress government would be offering “bar bhagya” (liquor fortune) as its next guarantee for every household. He linked this to the alleged ₹700 crore excise scam that has been plaguing the state.
The liquor was seized from the residence of Avinash Malli, a close aide of Congress leader Muniyalu Uday Kumar Shetty. The BJP claims this seizure exposes the true nature of the Congress government and its leaders.
Kundapura questioned the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s denial of the excise scam, wondering if he authorized the storage of such a large quantity of liquor. He further questioned if the liquor was intended for elections in other states.
The BJP criticized the alleged attempt to suppress the case as the accused remain at large following the raid. Kundapura urged the Excise Department to investigate the matter fully, stating that the public is already weary of numerous alleged scams.
