**Brahmapuri, November 15, 2024:** Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar, Leader of the Opposition in the outgoing Maharashtra Assembly, has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of employing divisive and provocative slogans in its campaign for the upcoming Assembly elections.
Speaking during his campaign in Brahmapuri, his home constituency in Chandrapur district, Wadettiwar claimed that the BJP’s reliance on slogans like “batenge toh katenge” (divided we perish) and “ek hai toh safe hai” (we are safe if we are united) is a sign of their vulnerability. He asserted that the BJP’s tactics reflect their fear of losing the elections.
Wadettiwar framed the elections as a clash between “Savidhan Parivar” (the family of the Constitution) and “Sangh Parivar” (the family of the RSS). He dismissed the BJP’s claims of threats to Hindu unity, stating that these slogans are aimed at diverting attention from issues like inflation.
He expressed confidence in the Congress’s prospects, predicting that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, consisting of the Congress, NCP, and Shiv Sena (UBT), would secure 170 seats in the Assembly. He also dismissed rumours of discord within the MVA, attributing them to the BJP’s efforts to confuse voters.
Commenting on recent revelations about a meeting between billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani, NCP leaders, and the BJP in 2019, Wadettiwar questioned the presence of an industrialist in a political meeting, suggesting it was part of a larger game plan that led to the fall of the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government in 2022.
The upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled to take place on November 20, 2024.
