Fri Nov 15 12:29:17 UTC 2024: ## Two Teenagers Killed in Tragic Kashmir Car Accident, Sparking Outrage and Calls for Action

**Srinagar, Kashmir:** Two 17-year-old boys, Hamaad and Aseem Sofi, lost their lives in a horrific car accident on Thursday, sparking widespread outrage and demands for stricter measures to prevent underage driving in Kashmir. The accident, which occurred on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway near Tengpora, involved an SUV driven by the teenagers that collided with a stationary truck before crashing into a road divider. The incident was captured on CCTV footage and has been widely shared on social media.

The accident has left families devastated and has brought the issue of underage driving to the forefront, with calls for action coming from all quarters, including political parties, civil society, and even religious leaders.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed grief over the loss of life and condemned the reckless behavior. He emphasized the need for stricter adherence to traffic rules, stating that “our cars get quicker, our roads get better, but our road sense shows no sign of improving.”

The Chief Minister also expressed concern over the ease with which minors are able to access vehicles, highlighting the role of parents in preventing such tragedies. “The prime responsibility is of parents,” said Muzaffar Shah, SSP (Traffic) Srinagar City. “A minor with no driving license should not get access to a two or four-wheeler.”

Shah also pointed out that the accident was likely caused by speeding and called for a collaborative effort from parents, schools, and the traffic police to curb underage driving.

Politicians like Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari have called for a complete ban on underage driving and have demanded strict action against traffic violators. The Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of the moderate Hurriyat Conference, also voiced concern over the alarming rise in traffic accidents in Kashmir and urged parents to exercise caution when granting their children access to vehicles.

Netizens have also expressed serious concern over the accident, many demanding that action should be taken against the parents for allowing minors to drive vehicles on roads.

As the investigation into the accident continues, the tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and a greater emphasis on road safety education, especially among young drivers.
