The accident, which occurred on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway near Tengpora, involved an SUV driven by the teenagers that collided with a stationary truck before crashing into a road divider. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed grief over the loss of life and condemned the reckless behavior. He emphasized the need for stricter adherence to traffic rules, stating that “our cars get quicker, our roads get better, but our road sense shows no sign of improving.”
The Chief Minister also expressed concern over the ease with which minors are able to access vehicles, highlighting the role of parents in preventing such tragedies. “The prime responsibility is of parents,” said Muzaffar Shah, SSP (Traffic) Srinagar City. “A minor with no driving license should not get access to a two or four-wheeler.”
