Fri Nov 15 05:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Oliveira vs. Chandler Rematch Headlines UFC 309 Co-Main Event

**NEW YORK, NY** – Former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira will face Michael Chandler in a rematch of their May 2021 title fight at UFC 309 on November 16th. The fight will serve as the co-main event, with UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones defending his title against Stipe Miocic in the main event.

Oliveira, currently ranked No. 2 in the lightweight division, won their first encounter by TKO in the second round. However, he has since lost his title to Islam Makhachev and is looking to reclaim his spot at the top. Chandler, ranked No. 7, is aiming to right the wrongs of his previous defeat and solidify his contender status.

Both fighters have faced setbacks since their first encounter. Oliveira lost to Makhachev in October 2022 and recently suffered a split decision loss to Arman Tsarukyan. Chandler lost to Dustin Poirier in November 2022 but is eager to get back on track.

“That one has passed. We’re focused on this one right now,” said Oliveira through an interpreter. “He’s trying to prove he can beat me. I’m trying to prove I can beat him again. Let’s put that in the past and focus on this one.”

Chandler acknowledged the significance of the rematch, stating, “That was probably the most painful point in my career after a loss… It was my one opportunity, I thought, to finally become the champion.”

He sees the fight as a chance to prove himself and earn a title shot against Makhachev, who he believes will defeat Tsarukyan in an upcoming fight.

The betting odds favor Oliveira (-280), who has the advantage in technical skill and fight IQ. However, Chandler (+200) possesses the power to secure a knockout victory.

The fight is expected to be a rematch of high stakes, with both fighters looking to prove their dominance in the lightweight division.
