Fri Nov 15 20:56:12 IST 2024: ## Wayanad to witness two hartals on November 19th over delayed landslide aid

**KALPETTA, November 15, 2024:** The Wayanad district will see two separate hartals on Tuesday, November 19th, with both the United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) protesting the delay in providing aid and rehabilitation for the landslide victims.

The UDF, in a statement released on Friday, condemned the Centre’s alleged inaction in releasing special assistance for Kerala to cover rehabilitation costs in landslide-affected regions of Wayanad. They also criticized the Centre’s failure to classify the Chooral Mala-Mundakai landslides as a national disaster. The UDF accused the government of displaying a callous attitude towards those affected by the disaster.

Meanwhile, the LDF announced its own hartal for the same day, citing the Centre’s “neglect” of landslide survivors. LDF convener C.K. Saseendran described the hartal as part of a larger campaign against what they perceive as a negative stance by the Central government.

Both hartals will exempt essential services, including media, dairy, and hospitals. The UDF plans to hold post office marches at the Assembly constituency headquarters in Mananthavady, Sultan Bathery, and Kalpetta at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
