Thu Nov 14 22:43:57 UTC 2024: ## Hyderabad Batter Tilak Varma Hits First T20 Century in South Africa

**Centurion, South Africa:** Young Hyderabad batter Tilak Varma achieved a milestone on Wednesday, smashing his first ever T20 century in a thrilling match against South Africa. Varma’s unbeaten century came off just 51 balls, with his second fifty coming off a blistering 19 deliveries. The left-handed batsman credits his captain, Suryakumar Yadav, for giving him the opportunity to bat at number three.

“Suryakumar came to my hotel room before the match and told me I would be batting at number three,” Varma revealed. “He said it was a great opportunity for me to prove myself.”

Varma seized the opportunity, showcasing his powerful hitting with seven sixes and eight fours in his remarkable innings. While he thrived in the new position, it meant Suryakumar had to relinquish his usual spot. However, the captain was happy to support his teammate’s success.

“We discussed the batting order in team meetings,” Suryakumar explained. “We encouraged the players to be flexible and play their natural game, just like they do in their franchises and states. We’re giving them opportunities, and it’s great to see Tilak succeed.”

India secured a comfortable 11-run victory in the third T20 match, extending their lead in the series to 2-1. The series continues with two more matches scheduled for the weekend.

This triumph comes after a challenging period for Tilak Varma, who missed the Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka tours due to a finger injury. He seems to have returned with a renewed focus and determination, setting the stage for an exciting future in the Indian T20 team.
