**Hobart, Australia** – Lizelle Lee smashed a record-breaking 150 not out off just 75 balls, leading the Hobart Hurricanes to a convincing 72-run victory over the Perth Scorchers in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). The former South African international surpassed Grace Harris’ previous WBBL record of 136*, smashing 12 sixes – another WBBL record – in a breathtaking display of power hitting. Her innings is also the fifth-highest score in women’s T20 cricket history.
The Hurricanes’ innings started poorly, losing two early wickets, but Lee’s explosive batting turned the tide, launching a stunning partnership with Elyse Villani. The Scorchers’ bowlers struggled to contain her onslaught, leaving the Hurricanes with a challenging total of 203/3.
In response, the Scorchers were never in the hunt, collapsing to 15/3 early on thanks to impactful bowling from Molly Strano (2/17) and Heather Graham (3/24). Despite a late flourish from Chloe Ainsworth (41), they were ultimately bowled out for 131 in 19.3 overs.
**Thunder Triumph in Sydney Derby**
Meanwhile, in another WBBL clash, the Sydney Thunder secured their fourth consecutive win, defeating the Sydney Sixers by 18 runs in a thrilling Sydney derby. Heather Knight’s rapid 50 and a disciplined bowling performance propelled the Thunder to victory. While Chamari Athapaththu (33) provided a solid start, Knight and Phoebe Litchfield (34) accelerated the Thunder’s innings, building a strong foundation.
Although the Sixers staged a late comeback to restrict the Thunder to 158/6, their chase was hampered by early wickets of Ellyse Perry and Alyssa Healy. Despite Ashleigh Gardner’s fighting 49, the Sixers were unable to overcome the Thunder’s strong bowling attack, ultimately finishing on 140 in 19.4 overs. The Thunder’s victory sees them climb to the top of the WBBL table.
