Thu Nov 14 23:14:34 IST 2024: ## Bengaluru Police Hold Awareness Program for Taxi Drivers Amidst Passenger Harassment Concerns

**Bengaluru, November 14, 2024:** Following reports of harassment and safety concerns, the north-east division police in Bengaluru conducted an awareness program on Thursday to educate taxi drivers and emphasize passenger safety rules.

The program, attended by over 100 drivers, members of the airport taxi drivers’ association, RTO, traffic, and airport officials, was addressed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sajith V.J.

Complaints regarding excess fares, harassment, and detours to avoid tolls have been reported. DCP Sajith V.J. highlighted that drivers are obligated to reduce the ₹200 toll fee from their fixed fare if they choose to avoid toll booths, but instead, some drivers are collecting this amount from passengers.

Concerns were also raised about certain cab drivers targeting airport passengers, particularly women traveling alone. These drivers have reportedly stopped mid-journey, claimed fuel issues, and demanded cash, threatening to cancel the ride if the passenger refused.

The taxi association also highlighted instances of passengers behaving aggressively and accusing drivers of overcharging due to misunderstandings.

The police emphasized that all violations will be dealt with strictly and assured the public that measures are being taken to address the concerns raised.
