Thu Nov 14 22:55:44 UTC 2024: ## Shanto to Lead Bangladesh in West Indies Tests as Mushfiqur Rahim Misses Out Due to Injury

**Dhaka, Bangladesh:** Bangladesh will face the West Indies in a two-match Test series starting on December 22nd, with Najmul Hossain Shanto leading the team in the absence of experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim. Shanto had previously expressed his desire to relinquish the Test captaincy after the South Africa series but agreed to lead after discussions with the BCB president.

Mushfiqur Rahim, who sustained a finger injury in the first ODI against the West Indies, will miss the Test series. The injury forced him to sit out the last two ODIs as well. This absence marks a significant blow for Bangladesh, who are already without the legendary all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. Shakib, who missed the farewell Test against South Africa, seems to have effectively ended his Test career.

The BCB has announced a 15-member squad for the series, which includes the return of Jaker Ali, Taskin Ahmed, and Shoriful Islam. Notably, off-spinner Nayeem Hasan and pacer Khaled Ahmed were dropped from the squad.

The series will see Bangladesh searching for a new era under Shanto’s leadership, with the absence of key players adding another layer of challenge. The first Test will commence on December 22nd, followed by the second Test on December 30th.
