Fri Nov 15 10:30:00 IST 2024: ## Chandler Aims for Title Shot with Oliveira Revenge at UFC 309

**LAS VEGAS** – Former Bellator champion Michael Chandler is confident in his upcoming rematch against Charles Oliveira at UFC 309, believing it will catapult him to the top of the lightweight division. Chandler, who lost to Oliveira in a thrilling title fight in 2021, sees this fight as his chance to avenge his loss and secure a UFC title shot.

“I’m just happy I’m in this position,” Chandler told reporters at UFC 309 media day. “I’ve been in the UFC long enough and fought the toughest guys.” He believes his victory on Saturday will solidify him as the No. 1 contender, second only to the current champion Islam Makhachev and his upcoming challenger Arman Tsarukyan.

The fight will mark a return to the octagon for Chandler, who has been sidelined for two years. He is aware that a win could lead to a title shot in the future, though a potential fight against Conor McGregor looms as a possibility.

“I’ve laid out my road map,” Chandler stated. “You obviously still got the Conor fight. That’s a possibility depending on when he gets his house in order and when he comes back.”

While Chandler acknowledges the potential for a McGregor matchup, he remains focused on the task at hand: defeating Oliveira and claiming his place as the top contender for the UFC lightweight title.
