Fri Nov 15 04:09:12 UTC 2024: ## “Matka” disappoints: Varun Tej’s high-stakes gangster drama falls flat

**Visakhapatnam, November 14, 2024:** The much-anticipated gangster drama “Matka,” starring Varun Tej and directed by Karun Kumar, has hit screens but failed to deliver on its promise of high-octane action and compelling storytelling.

Set against the backdrop of 1950s-80s India, “Matka” follows the story of Vasu (Varun Tej), a young man who gets entangled in a murder case and ends up in jail. After his release, he becomes involved in the world of gambling and eventually rises to become a powerful figure.

While the film boasts impressive production design and cinematography, the script and direction fall short. The story, despite promising a thrilling ride, feels predictable and lacks the edge that could have made it truly captivating. The pacing is sluggish, with an abundance of “K.G.F”-inspired elevation scenes that feel unnecessary and fail to impress.

Varun Tej delivers a strong performance as Vasu, showcasing his versatility and bringing life to the character. However, even his commendable efforts are not enough to save the film from its shortcomings. The supporting cast, including Meenakshi Chaudhary, Saloni, and Navin Chandra, put in solid performances but are ultimately overshadowed by the film’s weak plot.

Despite its flaws, the film does have its moments, particularly in terms of its technical aspects. The music, while not outstanding, is decent, and the cinematography beautifully captures the period setting. However, these redeeming features are overshadowed by the lackluster storytelling and direction.

Overall, “Matka” is a missed opportunity. While the film attempts to tackle a compelling theme, it fails to engage the audience with its predictable plot, slow pace, and uninspired direction. Despite Varun Tej’s commendable performance, the film disappoints, ultimately leaving audiences with a sense of letdown.
