Fri Nov 15 07:10:00 IST 2024: ## Indian Stock Markets to Enjoy Long Break for Guru Nanak Jayanti

**MUMBAI, INDIA – November 13, 2024** – Investors can expect a long break this week as both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) will be closed on Friday, November 15th, in observance of Guru Nanak Jayanti.

The markets will remain closed over the weekend and reopen on Monday, November 18th. Guru Nanak Jayanti, which celebrates the birth of the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev, is a major public holiday in India.

Trading in equities, derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) will be suspended for the day. However, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will offer partial operations, with evening trading from 5 PM to 11:30/11:55 PM. The National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), however, will be closed for the entire day.

The next trading holiday will be Wednesday, November 20th, for the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections. The final market holiday of the year will be on Christmas Day, December 25th.

The markets have entered a correction zone this week, with the Nifty index and broader market indices like Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 slumping over 10% from their all-time highs. This downward pressure is attributed to rising inflation, a stronger US dollar, and foreign outflows. This marks only the second technical correction since the Covid-19 crash in March 2020.
