Thu Nov 14 20:30:00 IST 2024: ## Six Flags Great Adventure Bids Farewell to Kingda Ka, Welcomes Record-Breaking Rides

**Jackson, NJ** – Six Flags Great Adventure announced the permanent closure of its iconic Kingda Ka roller coaster, paving the way for two new record-breaking attractions. The world’s tallest roller coaster, which opened in 2005 and reached speeds of 128 mph, will be demolished to make room for a “multi-world-record-breaking launch roller coaster” set to debut in 2026.

The park also confirmed the closure of Green Lantern, The Twister, Parachutes, and the Sky Way. The new launch coaster will be built on the space occupied by Kingda Ka, The Twister and Parachutes, while the Sky Way will be removed for future development.

In its place, Six Flags Great Adventure will introduce The Flash: Vertical Velocity, a “super boomerang coaster” set to open in 2025. This will be the first of its kind in North America.

“With our dedication to creating unforgettable experiences, the park’s multi-year expansion plans will bring major investments, including record-breaking thrill rides, revitalized family experiences, elevated dining, expanded events, and continuous enhancements across the property,” said park president Brian Bacica.

The decision to close Kingda Ka, a ride that was once the world’s tallest and fastest roller coaster, was met with mixed emotions by fans. While some expressed disappointment at the loss of a beloved ride, others welcomed the arrival of new, innovative attractions.

“We understand that saying goodbye to beloved rides can be difficult, and we appreciate our guests’ passion. These changes are an important part of our growth and dedication to delivering exceptional new experiences,” Bacica added.

Six Flags Great Adventure promises to unveil more details about the new launch coaster next summer.
