Philadelphia Eagles fans were treated to a surprise performance before Thursday’s game against the Washington Commanders. Retired NFL star Jason Kelce joined indie rock band Mt. Joy to perform their new Christmas song, “Santa Drives an Astrovan,” in Lincoln Financial Field’s Pepsi Plaza.
The performance was a promotion for Kelce’s upcoming holiday album, “A Philly Special Christmas Party,” which is due out on November 29. The album features collaborations with former Eagles teammates Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson, and proceeds will benefit Philadelphia-area charities.
Kelce, known for his playful personality, brought a banana shaker to the stage and even threw a giant teddy bear to a fan during the performance. He also expressed his apprehension about performing a Christmas song before a crucial game, especially since his voice was “shot.”
“Santa Drives an Astrovan” is the latest single from the album, following the release of “Maybe This Christmas,” a duet with Stevie Nicks that topped the Christmas song charts, dethroning Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
This year’s album marks the third installment of the “A Philly Special Christmas Party” series, highlighting Kelce’s commitment to both music and giving back to the community. His performance with Mt. Joy certainly brought a festive touch to the Eagles’ pre-game festivities.
