Fri Nov 15 19:38:57 IST 2024: ## Farmers Demand Action Against Liquor Consumption, Garbage Dumping, and Wild Boar Menace in Dindigul

**Dindigul, November 15, 2024:** Farmers in Dindigul have voiced their concerns over a range of issues at a monthly grievance redress meeting held at the Collectorate on Friday.

A group of farmers from Vedasandur complained that the absence of a compound wall around the local farmers’ market has led to people consuming liquor at night on the premises. They highlighted the presence of empty bottles and broken glass shards in the morning, posing a safety risk to visitors. The authorities have assured them that a compound wall will be constructed soon.

Farmers from Gujiliamparai and Vedasandur also expressed their frustration over the dumping of garbage into water channels, causing blockages and emitting foul odours in residential areas. They demanded strict action against those responsible for this practice.

Meanwhile, farmers from Sirumalai and Ayyalur voiced their distress over the ongoing wild boar menace that has been decimating their crops. They pleaded for government intervention, either by building a fence along the reserve forest or providing compensation for damaged crops. While the authorities deemed a fence impractical, they promised to explore options to deter the animals from entering cultivated areas.

Other grievances raised included encroachment of land and difficulties in registering for the Ayushman healthcare program. The PA (To Collector) Kottai Kumar assured the farmers that their concerns would be addressed and appropriate measures taken.
