England manager Lee Carsley has made a surprise decision to bench captain Harry Kane for Thursday’s UEFA Nations League match against Greece. Ollie Watkins will take his place in the starting lineup.

Kane, who started the last Nations League game against Finland, is not believed to be carrying any injuries. The decision comes after Kane criticized his teammates for a high number of injury withdrawals from the squad.

“I think every camp people were excited to come, every camp people wanted to play for England and that’s the most important thing,” Kane said on Tuesday. “I think England comes before anything. England comes before club.”

With Kane on the bench, Kyle Walker will wear the captain’s armband. Meanwhile, Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has been handed his England debut.
