**RAJAMAHENDRAVARAMA, INDIA -** A local court in Rajahmahendravarama has sentenced a couple to life imprisonment for the murder of a 31-year-old woman in the East Godavari district. The incident occurred in June 2020, when Chekka Pawan and his wife Lakshmi, tenants of the victim’s house, brutally hacked Turubilli Rohini to death with a sickle to steal her gold jewelry.
The victim’s mother, who attempted to intervene, sustained minor injuries during the attack. The couple fled the scene with the stolen gold.
The East Godavari SP, D. Narasimha Kishore, confirmed the sentencing, stating that the court also imposed a fine of ₹5000 on the couple. The murder case was classified as “murder for gain.”
