**WASHINGTON (AP)** – A former CIA employee, Asif William Rahman, has been charged with leaking classified information related to Israel’s previous plans to attack Iran. Rahman was arrested in Cambodia this week and appeared in court in Guam before being transferred to northern Virginia, where he faces two felony charges.
The indictment alleges that Rahman, who held a top secret security clearance and access to sensitive information, illegally possessed and shared classified documents relating to national defense.
The leaked information, attributed to the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and National Security Agency, appeared on a Telegram channel last month. The documents indicated Israel was preparing for a military strike in response to Iranian missile attacks in October.
The incident sparked an FBI investigation to determine how the documents were obtained, whether through intentional leaking or a hack, and if any other intelligence information was compromised.
The investigation also focused on identifying individuals who had access to the documents prior to their release.
Rahman’s attorney in Virginia has not yet been identified.
