**New Delhi, November 15, 2024:** India commemorated the birth anniversary of tribal icon Birsa Munda as “Janjatiya Gaurav Divas” (Tribal Pride Day) today, with top leaders paying tribute to the freedom fighter and revolutionary.
President Droupadi Murmu led the nation in honoring Munda, offering floral tributes at his statue in the Parliament complex alongside Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also lauded Munda’s life and sacrifices, calling him an unparalleled example of service to the nation. “Bhagwan Birsa Munda Ji sacrificed everything to protect the pride and dignity of the motherland,” PM Modi posted on X.
Munda, born in 1875 in present-day Jharkhand, spearheaded a tribal uprising against British rule. He died at the age of 25 while in custody.
Several state leaders, including Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, also paid tributes to Munda on the occasion.
The celebration of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas, marking Munda’s birth anniversary, began in 2021 to recognize and honor the contributions of unsung tribal heroes and their struggles for freedom.
