Fri Nov 15 02:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Billy Bob Thornton Stars in Taylor Sheridan’s New Oil-Fueled Series “Landman”

**LOS ANGELES** – Paramount+ is set to premiere its newest series, “Landman,” starring Billy Bob Thornton as a crisis executive navigating the treacherous world of the Texas oil business. The series, created by the prolific television writer Taylor Sheridan (“Yellowstone”), follows Thornton’s character, Tommy Norris, as he faces the ups and downs of the industry.

Thornton revealed that the idea for the series came from a chance encounter with Sheridan at the premiere of “1883.” “Taylor said he was going to write a show about the oil business, and he wanted to write it in my voice,” Thornton told The Hollywood Reporter. “I read the script and was like, ‘Wow, you did, didn’t you?’”

The series boasts an impressive cast, including Jon Hamm, Demi Moore, and Ali Larter. Larter, who plays Thornton’s ex-wife Angela, described the show as an opportunity to explore the complexity of a long-term relationship within the gritty world of the oil industry.

“Landman” is the latest in a string of successful television projects for Sheridan, known for his Western dramas like “Yellowstone” and “1883.” Thornton credits Sheridan’s ability to create “human stories” for the widespread appeal of his shows, noting the lack of such narratives in today’s movie landscape.

“These days in the theaters, it’s mainly event movies and superhero things,” Thornton said. “But these [shows] are like 10-hour movies that explore human beings. And I think people are hungry for that.”

“Landman” premieres its first two episodes this Sunday on Paramount+.
