**DUBLIN** – An Emerging Ireland Women’s squad has been announced for the inaugural appearance of an Irish team in the European Cricket Women’s Championship. The tournament, a T10 competition for European national teams, will be held in Malaga, Spain from December 15th to 20th.
The squad boasts a mix of experienced players from the senior Ireland squad, including some players who are also set to compete in the Under-19s World Cup. The team’s Head Coach, David Scanlon, emphasized the depth of talent within Irish women’s cricket, highlighting the team’s ability to score aggressively and their versatile bowling attack.
“We’re going with a really strong group of players… It really shows there is now a depth of talent within women’s cricket here in Ireland,” Scanlon stated. “We’re very excited to have players that can clear the ropes and score all around the ground… We also have all bases covered in the bowling department.”
Emerging Ireland Women will face England XI Women, Scotland XI Women, Netherlands XI Women, and Italy Women in the Premier Division. The top four teams will progress to Finals Day on December 20th, where the tournament title will be decided. All matches will be broadcasted live on the ECN YouTube channel.
This marks the first time an Emerging Ireland Women’s team will compete in the European Cricket Women’s Championship, mirroring the men’s development pathway system. The tournament, which is in its second year for women and launched in 2021 for men, is an exciting platform for up-and-coming players to gain valuable international experience.
