Thu Nov 14 10:03:24 UTC 2024: ## Telangana Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Medical Practices and Drug Sales

**Hyderabad, November 14, 2024:** The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) conducted raids on Tuesday, November 12, uncovering illegal medical practices and drug sales in two districts.

In the first raid, officials apprehended Akula Gopinath, an unqualified practitioner operating a clinic in Bhoodan Pochampally mandal of Yadadri Bhongir district. The clinic was found to be stocking 31 types of medicines, including antibiotics and pain relievers, without a valid drug license. The seized stock, valued at approximately ₹38,382, included antibiotics such as Cefixime, Cefpodoxime, Ofloxacin, Ciprofloxacin, Doxycycline, Amoxicillin, and Potassium Clavulanate.

The DCA officials highlighted the dangers of unqualified practitioners distributing antibiotics indiscriminately, warning of potential health risks like the development of antimicrobial resistance.

In a separate raid, officials inspected an unauthorised medical shop run by Jalagam Venkateshwarlu in Nuthankal mandal of Suryapet District. The shop was found to be illegally stocking and selling a range of medicines without a drug license. Officials seized 30 types of medicines valued at around ₹22,000.

The DCA’s actions demonstrate their commitment to ensuring the safe and legal distribution of medicines in the state. These raids serve as a stark reminder of the need for stringent regulations and enforcement to protect public health and prevent the misuse of pharmaceuticals.
