**Srinagar, November 14, 2024:** J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday highlighted the significant role played by the Srinagar campus of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in empowering local artisans and enriching the region’s crafts through “Craft Cluster Projects.”

Addressing the convocation ceremony at the NIFT campus in Budgam, Sinha praised the institute’s contribution to strengthening the brand positioning of J&K’s apparel and crafts through its innovative educational approach. He emphasized the institute’s focus on providing a comprehensive education in design development, fashion management, and communication.

Sinha described Jammu and Kashmir as a treasure trove of India’s creative traditions, particularly highlighting the region’s rich tapestry of handicrafts and handloom products. He pledged unwavering commitment to empowering local weavers and craftsmen, providing them with opportunities and resources to unlock their potential.

The Lt. Governor stressed the importance of an inclusive approach, ensuring that the expertise and exposure gained at NIFT are disseminated to the handicrafts and handloom industry. He urged the graduating students to aim for creating global brands and harness their creativity and innovation to make India a global fashion hub.

Sinha paid tribute to renowned fashion designer Rohit Bal, a native of Srinagar, whose innovative approach serves as an inspiration for NIFT students. He encouraged the students to tackle the challenges facing the domestic apparel and textile industry and contribute to making India a global fashion leader.

The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Vikramjit Singh, Commissioner, Secretary, Industries & Commerce Department, and Prof. Monika Gupta, Director, NIFT Srinagar.
