Thu Nov 14 07:24:53 UTC 2024: ## CPI(M) Leader Seeks Anticipatory Bail in Sexual Harassment Case

**KOCHI, INDIA -** The Kerala High Court on Wednesday adjourned to next week the hearing on a petition filed by Iqbal S.M., secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Punnamada local committee, seeking anticipatory bail in a sexual harassment case.

The case was filed by a former leader of the Janadhipathya Mahila Association. In an affidavit filed in response to Iqbal’s bail petition, the woman stated that she had neither withdrawn her complaint nor settled the case, refuting Iqbal’s claim. She further alleged that an affidavit produced by Iqbal ascribing to her was forged and intended to mislead the court.

Iqbal, in his defense, claimed that the complaint was based on a misunderstanding and personal issues. He added that the entire matter had been settled and the woman had executed an affidavit in his favor.

The court will continue hearing the case next week.
