**New Delhi, November 19, 2024:** The highly anticipated results of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections will be announced on November 21st, 2024, after a delay caused by widespread defacement of public spaces during the campaigning period.
The Delhi High Court had stayed the result announcement following complaints of excessive campaign materials polluting public spaces. After ensuring the removal of these materials, the court lifted the stay on Monday, allowing the counting of votes to begin. The counting process will commence at 8:30 am on November 21st at the DU Conference Centre, with the Election Commission team overseeing the process.
This year’s DUSU elections saw a record low voter turnout with only 51,379 students casting their votes out of a total of 1.45 lakh eligible voters.
The counting of votes for both the central panel and college representatives will be conducted under strict security measures. The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used for the central panel elections were kept in a strong room at the examination department, monitored by a police team, while ballot boxes for college representatives were kept safe in individual colleges.
The university has assured full transparency throughout the counting process, with officials stating that the EVMs and ballot papers will be opened in the presence of the Election Commission’s team.
The DUSU central panel consists of the president, vice president, secretary, and joint secretary positions. The results will reveal who will lead the student body for the coming academic year.
