**Tonk, Rajasthan:** Tension has gripped the Devli-Uniyara assembly constituency in Tonk district after independent candidate Naresh Meena was arrested for slapping the SDM Amit Choudhary.
Meena’s supporters turned violent demanding his release, leading to a tense situation in Samraavta village, which has now been converted into a police cantonment.
After Meena’s arrest, the situation escalated with supporters engaging in stone pelting and clashes with police. Police resorted to tear gas to control the mob.
Meena, in a tweet, assured his supporters that he was fine and that they should maintain peace.
Agriculture Minister Kirodi Lal Meena has taken cognizance of the incident and has spoken to the DGP, IG, Superintendent of Police Tonk, and District Collector, urging his supporters to maintain peace and not take the law into their own hands.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Premchand Bairawa has assured that the law will take its course.
This incident comes after Meena slapped the SDM during the by-election campaign. The incident has sparked outrage, highlighting the need for stricter measures to ensure peaceful elections.
