Chennai, India – A doctor specializing in oncology was critically injured on Wednesday after being stabbed by the relative of a patient at the Kalaignar Centenary Super Speciality Hospital (KCSSH) in Guindy, Chennai. Dr. Balaji Jagannath was on duty when he was approached by 26-year-old Vignesh, who accused the doctor of negligence in his mother’s cancer treatment. Vignesh, along with three friends, allegedly engaged in a heated argument with the doctor before drawing a kitchen knife and stabbing him in the neck, head, and upper body.
The incident has led to immediate action from government officials and healthcare advocates. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin condemned the attack, promising necessary treatment for Dr. Jagannath and ordering a detailed inquiry. He emphasized the government’s responsibility to protect medical professionals, acknowledging the invaluable service they provide.
