Tue Nov 12 19:10:00 UTC 2024: ## India Successfully Tests New Long-Range Cruise Missile

**NEW DELHI** – The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted the maiden flight-test of its new Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM) on Tuesday, November 12th. The missile, with a range of over 1,000 km, was launched from a mobile articulated launcher at the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.

The LRLACM is a new variant of the Nirbhay cruise missile, boasting improved features. During the test, all sub-systems performed as expected, meeting the primary mission objectives. The missile demonstrated its ability to navigate using waypoints, fly at various altitudes and speeds, and perform maneuvers. It also showcased its advanced avionics and software for reliable performance.

Developed by the Aeronautical Development Establishment in Bengaluru, the LRLACM benefited from contributions from other DRDO laboratories and Indian industries. Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited are the development and production partners, working closely with DRDO.

The missile is designed for launch from both ground-based mobile launchers and frontline ships using a universal vertical launch module system. The LRLACM is an Acceptance of Necessity-sanctioned Mission Mode project, approved by the Defence Acquisition Council.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh applauded the successful launch, stating it paves the way for future indigenous cruise missile development programs. Once inducted, the LRLACM, comparable to the US Tomahawk cruise missile, will equip Indian forces with a long-range standoff capability to strike targets on land.
