Wed Nov 13 04:45:00 UTC 2024: ## Trump Appoints Musk and Ramaswamy to Head New Department of Government Efficiency
**WASHINGTON** – President-elect Donald Trump announced on Tuesday the creation of a new Department of Government Efficiency, to be headed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. The department aims to dismantle bureaucracy, cut regulations, and streamline government operations by July 4, 2026.
“Mr. Musk and Mr. Ramaswamy will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies,” Trump stated. He described this effort as “potentially ‘The Manhattan Project’ of our time,” referencing the wartime effort to build the atomic bomb.
Both Musk and Ramaswamy are strong Trump supporters. Musk donated millions to Trump’s campaign and publicly campaigned with him, while Ramaswamy, after dropping out of the presidential race, threw his support behind Trump.
Musk, known for his roles at Tesla, SpaceX, and social media platform X, commented on the appointment: “This will send shockwaves through the system, and anyone involved in government waste, which is a lot of people!”
The acronym for the new department, DOGE, is the same as the cryptocurrency Dogecoin, which Musk has promoted. This appointment, along with the ambition of the new department, is sure to spark significant debate and scrutiny.
