Wed Nov 13 03:05:11 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Chokes Under Severe Pollution, Air Quality Index Crosses 400
**New Delhi:** The national capital, Delhi, is battling severe air pollution as the Air Quality Index (AQI) crossed 400, putting residents under immense pressure.
The situation is particularly grim in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad where a thick smog blanket has enveloped the region, causing significant inconvenience for commuters. The AQI in Delhi has reached the “severe” category, exceeding 400, while Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad recorded an AQI of 188.
Authorities have initiated measures to combat the pollution, including water sprinkling in hotspots, and enforcing dust control measures at construction and demolition sites.
The alarming pollution levels have also led to the inclusion of three cities in Bihar, two in Haryana, and Chandigarh in the list of top 10 polluted cities in India.
Adding to the concern, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has highlighted the worrisome situation in neighboring Pakistan and issued warnings.
The authorities are urging residents to take necessary precautions and minimize outdoor activities during this period of severe air pollution.
