Wed Nov 13 12:00:16 UTC 2024: ## Doctor Stabbed Seven Times at Chennai Hospital After Suspected Wrong Medication

**Chennai, Tamil Nadu:** A 25-year-old man allegedly stabbed a doctor seven times at a government hospital in Chennai on Wednesday morning, suspecting the doctor had prescribed incorrect medication for his ailing mother. The oncologist, who is also a heart patient, sustained injuries to his chest, head, neck, and ear, and was admitted to the ICU. He is reported to be in a stable condition.

The incident took place at the Kalaignar Centenary Multi-specialty Government Hospital when the assailant, posing as a hospital employee, attacked the doctor in the OPD. The attacker attempted to flee after the crime but was apprehended and handed over to the Guindy Police Station.

Following the attack, doctors at the hospital staged a protest, condemning the violence against medical professionals.

Chief Minister MK Stalin ordered an inquiry into the incident and assured the public that the government would take necessary steps to prevent similar incidents in the future. Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian visited the hospital, confirming that the assailant used a concealed knife and denied any security lapses. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin also visited the hospital.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) condemned the incident, calling it a “heinous crime” and stating that superficial measures were not enough to ensure the safety of doctors. They urged for strong legislation, exemplary punishments, and proactive safety measures to prevent such violence from occurring again.
