**Chennai, November 12th:** Heavy rains have lashed Chennai and surrounding areas in Tamil Nadu, prompting authorities to declare a holiday for all schools in the capital city on Tuesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the next three days, forecasting heavy rainfall in several districts, including those along the north coast and delta region.

The IMD has issued alerts for 12 districts today, with the number rising to 17 on Wednesday, 27 on Thursday, and 25 on Friday. The affected districts include Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, and Villuppuram, as well as Puducherry and Karaikal.

Despite the heavy rains, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin assured the public that the state government is fully prepared to handle the situation. He stated that the government has increased the number of motor pumps and volunteers based on the experience of the October rains, with a total of 1194 motor pumps and 152 super sucker machines deployed. He also confirmed that there have been no reports of flooding in Chennai, with only 3.2 cm of rain recorded in the city so far.

The IMD advises residents in affected areas to exercise caution, stay updated on weather forecasts, and take necessary precautions to minimize the impact of the heavy rains.
