**Bengaluru, November 12, 2024:** Prof. M.S. Thimmappa, former Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, passed away early this morning at a private hospital in Bengaluru. He was 83.

Prof. Thimmappa had suffered a brain injury after a fall in his bedroom on October 11th. Despite undergoing treatment at the hospital, the severity of the injury and other pre-existing health conditions, including prostate cancer and high blood sugar, made further treatment, including surgery, impossible.

As a professor of psychology, he was known for his captivating personality, effective communication skills, and warm relationships. He had a profound impact on the lives of countless students, guiding numerous doctoral and M.Phil students and leading the Department of Psychology for many years.

He is survived by no immediate family. He lost his only daughter in 2000 and his wife in 2007. Prof. Thimmappa had been living alone since his retirement.

The mortal remains will be kept for public viewing at his Jayanagar residence until 11 a.m. The final rites will be conducted at the Chamarajpet crematorium after 11:45 a.m.
