**Aluva, November 12, 2024:** A major fire broke out on Sunday afternoon at a power tool manufacturing and sales outlet in Thottumugham, along the Aluva-Perumbavoor road. Over 20 fire tenders from various parts of Ernakulam were deployed to control the blaze, which erupted around 3:30 pm and took approximately two hours to extinguish.
The fire, which originated on the top floor of the building, caused extensive damage to welding units, drilling machines, and compressors stored at the outlet. While preliminary assessments by the Department of Fire and Rescue Services suggest a short circuit from batteries stored on the top floor as the potential cause, the exact reason for the blaze remains under investigation. Electrical Inspectorate and forensic experts will conduct a thorough assessment to determine the cause of the fire.
The investigation revealed that three workers were present at the building during the incident. The presence of cardboard boxes used for packaging on the top floor is also being considered as a potential contributing factor. Aluva East police are examining CCTV footage as part of their investigation.
