Tue Nov 12 04:39:06 UTC 2024: ## Ferguson Ruled Out of Sri Lanka ODI Series with Calf Injury
New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka after sustaining a calf injury during the second T20I. Ferguson, who had just bowled a hat-trick to help New Zealand win the match, was forced to leave the field after his second over.
The 33-year-old will return home for further scans to assess the severity of the injury and the required rehabilitation time.
“We’re gutted for Lockie,” said head coach Gary Stead. “He showed in just two overs what an asset he is with the ball and he’s brought a lot of leadership to this group, so he’ll be a big miss heading into an important ODI series for us.”
In his place, New Zealand has called up fellow paceman Adam Milne. Milne brings with him plenty of international experience and will provide a like-for-like replacement for Ferguson.
“To be ruled out so early in a tour is always tough to take, but we’re hopeful his recovery will be short and he’ll be back out on the field in no time,” added Stead. “Adam is a great addition to the squad, bringing genuine pace and experience.”
The first match of the ODI series is set for Wednesday, November 13th in Dambulla.
