Tue Nov 12 04:21:00 UTC 2024: ## Ten Suspected Kuki Insurgents Killed in Manipur Encounter

**Jiribam, Manipur:** At least 10 suspected Kuki insurgents were killed in an encounter with security forces in Manipur’s Jiribam district on Sunday. The incident occurred after the insurgents launched a massive attack on a police station, sparking a gunfight that left one CRPF soldier injured.

The attack, which began in the early hours of Sunday, targeted the police station in Borobekra, Jiribam, which has been the site of several attacks in recent months. The suspected insurgents reportedly came in auto-rickshaws and also targeted a nearby relief camp for internally displaced people.

Following the attack, the insurgents spread to a nearby settlement, setting houses on fire and engaging in further gunfights with security forces. The attackers used weapons including rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) and AK series assault rifles.

The incident comes amidst heightened tensions in Jiribam following a recent wave of violence. Last week, a woman from the Hmar tribe was killed by suspected Meitei insurgents, while a woman from the Meitei community was shot dead by suspected Kuki insurgents.

The deaths of the suspected Kuki insurgents have been met with a shutdown announced by Kuki civil society groups in areas dominated by them.

The incident highlights the ongoing violence and unrest in Manipur, fueled by the ongoing conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities. The CRPF has deployed reinforcements to Jiribam, as the situation remains tense.
