**Manchester, UK** – Anaya Bangar, son of former India cricketer and coach Sanjay Bangar, has publicly revealed his gender transition journey. The 23-year-old, previously known as Aryan, shared a video on Instagram documenting his 10-month transformation, including hormone replacement surgery. Anaya has since changed his name and is now living in Manchester.
Anaya’s video garnered significant attention online, where he shared glimpses of his journey with former India captain MS Dhoni and star batter Virat Kohli. In the caption, he expressed his dedication to cricket, facing challenges and doubts, but highlighted a more personal journey of self-discovery and embracing his true identity.
“Chasing my dream of playing cricket professionally has been a journey filled with sacrifices, resilience, and unwavering dedication,” Anaya wrote, emphasizing his strength in overcoming obstacles. “But beyond the game, I had another journey. Embracing my true self meant making hard choices, letting go of the comfort of fitting in, and standing up for who I am, even when it wasn’t easy.”
While Anaya is a promising cricketer, representing Islam Gymkhana and Hinckley Cricket Club, his dreams have been dealt a setback by a recent International Cricket Council (ICC) rule prohibiting transgender athletes from participating in women’s cricket.
In a statement, ICC CEO Geoff Allardice stated: “Inclusivity is incredibly important to us as a sport, but our priority was to protect the integrity of the international women’s game and the safety of players.”
Anaya expressed disappointment over the rule on Instagram, sharing a lengthy post detailing his struggles and aspirations.
Despite this setback, Anaya remains active on social media, keeping his followers updated on his life in Manchester. His story serves as a powerful reminder of the complexities of pursuing one’s dreams while navigating personal journeys of self-discovery and challenging established norms.
