**Muscat, Oman:** Oman secured a convincing eight-wicket victory over the Netherlands in a Cricket World Cup League 2 match at the Oman Cricket Academy ground on Tuesday. The hosts’ spinners proved instrumental in restricting the Dutch to a paltry 132 runs, before a composed innings from captain Jatinder Singh guided Oman home.
Shakeel Ahmed was the star of the bowling show, claiming four wickets for just 26 runs, including two maiden overs. Fellow spinners Aamir Kaleem (2/27) and Wasim Ali (1/18) complemented Ahmed’s efforts, leaving the Dutch struggling from the outset.
Bas de Leede provided some resistance with a gritty 51 runs, but the Netherlands ultimately succumbed to the pressure, bowled out for 132 in 40.2 overs.
In reply, Oman’s openers Jatinder Singh and Ashish Odedara built a solid foundation with an 81-run partnership. Singh, displaying impressive composure, reached his half-century and guided Oman close to victory, ultimately finishing on 58 runs. Wasim Ali (24 not out) and Hammad Mirza ensured a comfortable win for Oman, reaching the target of 133 in 34.1 overs.
Shakeel Ahmed’s outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award. This victory added two crucial points to Oman’s tally, bringing them level with Namibia on 10 points. However, they remain behind Namibia on net run rate.
With two more home games remaining in the tri-series, Oman is well-positioned to improve their standing in the League 2 table. The USA currently leads with 16 points, followed by Canada (16 points), Scotland (14 points), and the Netherlands (12 points).
