Sun Nov 10 16:47:27 UTC 2024: ## Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway Construction Progressing Well: 65% Complete in Tamil Nadu

**Chennai, November 10, 2024:** Construction work on the ambitious Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway (BCE) is progressing steadily, with 65% of the project completed in Tamil Nadu. The 105.7 km stretch within the state, which passes through Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Vellore, and Ranipet districts, is expected to be fully operational by August 2025.

The expressway, a four-lane access-controlled greenfield project, will significantly reduce travel time and distance between Chennai and Bengaluru. The 24.50-km stretch from Walajapet to Arakkonam has the highest progress, with over 84% complete, followed by the 24-km Gudipala-Walajapet section at 70%.

While the project has seen smooth progress due to minimal land acquisition issues, shifting electricity towers along the alignment posed some challenges, requiring coordination with revenue department authorities.

The BCE will feature 34 major and 31 minor bridges spanning a combined distance of 15 km, with the longest bridge measuring 840 m. The Tamil Nadu section will also include six toll plazas at interchanges.

The expressway is expected to play a vital role in boosting economic development and connectivity between the two major metropolitan cities.
