**New Delhi, India** – The Supreme Court of India on Monday dismissed the bail plea of former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, who faces charges of rape and sexual assault. A bench of Justices Dela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma rejected the plea, citing Revanna’s influence as a factor.
Revanna, the son of Holenarasipura JD(S) MLA H D Revanna and grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, is accused of raping a woman who worked as a domestic help for his family. The charges stem from a 2,144-page charge sheet filed by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in August.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing Revanna, argued that the initial complaint did not include section 376 of the IPC (rape) and that a charge sheet had been filed. However, the bench maintained that it could not interfere with the Karnataka High Court’s October 21 decision denying him bail.
The Supreme Court, however, allowed Rohatgi to approach the court again after six months.
Revanna faces a total of four cases involving sexual assault and harassment allegations. The SIT is currently investigating these cases.
