Mon Nov 11 03:25:07 UTC 2024: ## Saudi Military Chief Visits Tehran for Talks, Signaling Enhanced Ties

**Tehran, Iran** – In a significant step towards strengthening their newly rekindled relations, Saudi Arabia’s top military official, Fayyad al-Ruwaili, arrived in Tehran on Sunday for talks with Iranian officials. The visit marks a rare high-level meeting since the two countries restored diplomatic ties in March 2023 following a seven-year rift.

The official Iranian news agency IRNA reported that al-Ruwaili met with General Mohammad Bagheri, chief of staff of the Iranian armed forces, at the Iranian Armed Forces General Staff Headquarters in Tehran. The meeting focused on “the development of defense diplomacy and the expansion of bilateral cooperation.”

General Bagheri highlighted the growing security cooperation between the two countries and even suggested the possibility of Saudi naval participation in future Iranian naval exercises.

The renewed relationship between Iran and Saudi Arabia, brokered by China in March 2023, has been a significant development in regional politics. The two countries have long been rivals, backing opposing sides in conflicts across the Middle East. Their reconciliation offers a glimmer of hope for a more stable and peaceful future in the region.
